The protein-sparing diet and hypoglycemia

People who tend to have hypoglycemia obviously are not happy to see you cut back on the sugar in your diet. They should know that hypoglycemia is not caused by a lack of sugar; it is the consequence of an overreaction to excess insulin production, which causes insulin-reaction hypoglycemia or “reflex hypoglycemia”.

If sugar intake is reduced, the pancreas will secrete less insulin and, as a result, reflex hypoglycemia will not occur.

When the body is deprived of sugar, it will turn its amino acids into glucose to meet the needs of glucose-dependent tissues like the brain, red blood cells and part of the adrenal glands.

This ability to turn amino acids into glucose is called gluconeogenesis; it keeps your blood sugar level constant and sufficient during weight loss.

So why do you feel dizzy when you lose weight?

More often than not, dizziness is due to a drop in blood pressure brought on by the large amount of water your body loses.

So, remember to drink plenty of water and keep up your mineral salt intake.
